A guest blog from Dr Abigail Barragry
I have always believed that creativity is the key to feeling truly alive. When I’m immersed in the creative process, I feel my freest – ideas flow effortlessly, and my body and mind are in harmonious alignment. However, towards the end of last year, I found myself suffering from one too many burnouts. Without realising it, I had replaced activities I did simply for fun with tasks I felt I had to do, and this imbalance left me utterly depleted.
Language alone can sometimes be limiting. We often struggle to find the right words to express our deepest emotions, leaving feelings and memories stuck in our bodies. I have discovered that by moving our bodies – whether through dance, a gentle walk, or even creative play – we can release these emotions in ways that words never could. This realisation has been a driving force behind my retreats, which offer a multi-sensory experience designed to help participants reconnect with their values, understand what is holding them back, and rediscover their playful, creative selves.
Recently, I made a conscious effort to re-engage with creative activities, and one highlight was our “Paint Like Picasso” session with ‘Pop Up Paining’. It was far more than simply putting brush to canvas – it was a celebration of spontaneity, shared joy, and collective creativity. The experience was vibrant and uplifting, reminding me that group processes and shared experiences truly enhance our creative expression.
I firmly believe that playful, creative methods are among the best ways to improve mental health and nurture the body-mind connection. My retreats create a space for genuine connection with others, where you can let go of everyday pressures and embrace your inner artist. Whether you’re seeking personal growth or simply a break from routine, engaging in creative activities with like-minded individuals can be transformative.
If you’re looking for a new way to boost your wellbeing and rekindle your creative spark, I invite you to join one of our retreats. Rediscover the joy of creativity, connect with others, and experience a journey towards a more balanced and fulfilling life.
