The hidden treasure that is the E17 Art Trail

Unless you have been hiding under a rock for the past year, you will know that Walthamstow is the London Borough of Culture this year. Walthamstow is kinda a big deal right now. We have a lot going on!

Right now there’s a huge creative festival happening in Walthamstow. You can step through the looking glass and into the lives of the creative force of people who are responsible for getting Waltham Forest the title of London’s first ever Borough of Culture.

Last weekend my friends and I went out to get a taster of what was going on. I’m not going to lie – there’s a lot – so it’s hard to know where to start. We started with the most absurd sounding one, supposedly the ‘public urinal exhibition’. I won’t give away the surprise of what we really saw…

But what I will do is tell you about a few of the favourite things we’ve seen so far…

My favourite find by far was ‘Small Wonder’ by Griffics. We were welcomed by the most well designed welcome-mat and doorbell ,and stepped into a house full of quirky design. He even made a dust-cloth that will make any chore fun!

I had to take a double take before entering Le GarageInc as it was down an alleyway, and despite my newfound sense of community spirit, it seemed a bit scary to go into an unfamiliar garage! What we found there was amazing photography and insane wigs in an improbable hair styling salon.

There where too many other fun finds for me to put here. But I will leave you with this: on Saturday the 8th there will be a big street party on Black Horse Road. At the party there will be several private views, and an art night in YonderE17 – the fancy new climbing hall.

P.S. I’m really excited to be taking part in the art trail and I also have a private view this Saturday!

Venture to the second floor of Creative Works and find yourself surrounded by Surya’s vibrant portraits characterized by her vibrant melody of colors and materials.

Everyone is welcome. They crazy thing is you will find yourself talking to strangers and having fun! I’ll be there along with some of the Pop Up Painting team, so come say hi!
