PopUp Painting’s ‘artist of the week’ is Birmingham PopUp Painting team member Rob Conway.
Rob Conway is a Birmingham based illustrator, artist-educator and member of the land art collective ‘Landmark’.
Conway’s illustrative work is characterised by bold pencil lines coupled with areas of loose and viscous colour. The artist’s vibrant illustrations have appeared in both the BBC Wildlife Magazine and the Health Service journal.
Rob Conway also devises and delivers a variety of mixed media workshops, which include various printing, drawing, and clay sculpture. Recent projects have included working with international students in France on the pan-European Erasmus + programme, where European students explored themes inspired by classic British literature, culminating in the eye-catching ‘Book Bench’ statement piece.
Conway’s work with ‘Landmark’, an artist collective creating enormous statement artwork, has received worldwide attention on TV and news coverage for both the Tour de France and Tour de Yorkshire.
The artist also works at The New Art Gallery Walsall delivering the education programme to schools and groups in the gallery and also within the education departments at Wolverhampton Art Gallery which was recently judged to be ‘outstanding’ by Ofsted, and The Barber Institute in Birmingham.
