PopUp Painting’s ‘artist of the week’ is artist and PopUp Painting team member Joelle Avelino.
Joelle Avelino is a Congolese and Angolan London based artist and illustrator. The artist graduated from the University Of Hertfordshire with a BA (Hons) in Illustration with Marketing.
Joelle works with both traditional and digital methods of drawing and painting. From a young age Joelle remembers being rarely without a pencil in her hand! The artist’s work is inspired predominantly by powerful women, but the use of everyday life also plays a role in Avelino’s work.
The artist is also very much influenced by her African heritage, having grown up in the UK Joelle aims to bring these two worlds together in her work.
