Artist of the Week: Bambi

Artist of the Week: Bambi

PopUp Painting’s ‘artist of the week’ is Bambi.

Bambi (b. 1982) is a street artist from London. It has been speculated that ‘Bambi’ is also a chart-topping musician, however her identity has never been disclosed.

The graffiti artist’s approach is similar to Banksy’s; using stencils to get a clean and quick image on the wall. Bambi has even been nicknamed ‘the female Banksy’. Bambi’s style of work also mimic’s Banksy’s use of satire and irony. The artist’s work is frequently described as gritty and masculine in appearance whilst exploring themes of feminism, popular and street culture.

Bambi first came to public attention when a portrait of Amy Winehouse appeared in a Camden doorway with the artist’s signature bright pink tag accompanying it. Since then, the artist has depicted everyone from the Duke and Duchess of Wales to Boris Johnson. Bambi’s work is widely collected, particularly among celebrities, who include Rihanna, Adele and Brad Pitt. Works by the street artist have been known to fetch up to £100,000 at auction.

We will be featuring Bambi’s work all week on our Facebook and Twitter pages, but in the meantime here is a selection of our favourite works by the artist:
