Transgender Artists you should know about

Transgender Artists you should know about

This week is Transgender Awareness Week. Here are 7 trans artists we think you should know about.

Transgender Awareness Week aims to raise visibility of transgender and gender non-conforming people and the issues faced by the community, and culminates in the Transgender Day of Remembrance (20th November).

Over the past few months, we have tried to make more of an effort to promote and feature artists from a range of backgrounds. The popular imagination of art is dominated by Van Goghs, Andy Warhols, and Banksys. So as well as featuring these masters who we’re all very familiar with, we’ve been making sure to feature more women in art, and more artists who aren’t white Europeans. There is a whole world of art to explore! Frida Kahlo and David Hockney are iconic LGB artists, but transgender artists are almost invisible to the public eye.

Below are 7 of our favourite transgender artists. There are obviously loads and loads more transgender artists, and one week isn’t enough to do them justice. But this is a start!

If you want to find more transgender art and culture, check out the Museum of Transgender Hirstory & Art!
